General Course Information
Semester
The Center for Ministry Preparation operates on a traditional semester calendar. There are two quarters in the academic year which occur from August to April. During the academic year each session is fifteen (15) weeks in length with an additional week for examinations.
Course Formats
CMP offers courses in four formats: on-site, distance learning, special assignments and intensives.
- On-site courses are 15 weeks in length with the final exam during on the 16th week.
- Distant Learning courses are independent study courses that last a duration of 15 weeks in length. Students are allowed to enroll in a maximum of three (3) courses for each semester unless special permission is given. Starting time frame for distance learning courses corresponds with traditional semester courses, with the exception of Summer courses which run between the months of May and August.
- Special Assignment classes are usually off-site courses or courses of special interest to the student. Classes are arranged through the CMP office and by approval of the Instructor.
- Intensives are typically two (2) or three (3) day courses that are offered on-site or through partnership with other educational providers. Intensives may also be scheduled on two consecutive weekends with class during the day on Saturday. Finals for these types of classes are scheduled for completion within four (4) weeks of the last day of the course.
Hours Invested in Each Course
The majority of courses are equivalent to three semester hours of credit and thus require a minimum of thirty contact hours. Each course represents two hours and forty-five minutes of class instruction for each of the fifteen weeks, plus approximately six-to-nine hours of out-of-class involvement (studying, writing, reading) per course each week.
